Hagley Farm School is located 20 minutes to the west of Launceston, in the Northern Midlands municipality. The school has three distinct and unique elements: A Primary School of 360 students; a commercial farm on 68Ha; and a Field Studies (Visitor) Centre focussed around the farm and visited by up to 6000 students (K – 12) and adults each year.
The school was first established in 1855 and is deeply embedded in the Northern Midlands community. We are exceptionally proud of our heritage and history, as well as our focus on 21st century education.
Hagley Farm School and Agricultural Learning Centre’s vision is to develop "Self-motivated, resilient and successful learners”. This is achieved through our Mission of “Valuing the past, embracing the present and planning innovatively for the future”. School improvement is at the centre of our school culture, with a focus on excellence in teaching and learning. Our collaborative teaching teams focus on improving learning outcomes for all students. We identify as a professional learning community, and our teachers work regularly in teams with student learning as the focus. Ancillary staff understand the importance of their role in our improvement journey. Partnerships with families are highly valued, and essential to the learning journey of our students.
Hagley Farm School embraces the values of the Department of Education; Aspiration, Respect, Courage and Growth. We have a strong focus on building and celebrating a supportive and inclusive school community. Our Values are mirrored in the relationships and communications between our community members. Students and teachers focus on the Values regularly in classroom learning activities, and actions are celebrated in school assemblies.
Parents, and our extended school community are encouraged to participate in the life of the school, as well as its governance through the School Association. Our school community has great pride in its families, children and staff, and the relationships we hold. Volunteers are welcome in our classrooms, and we celebrate the volunteer groups who support our school in other ways, such as programs within the school and also through fundraising activities – especially through our annual work at Agfest. This highly valued fundraising supports extensive school developments such as the recent Kindergarten playground.
We have a proud history of success in participation in sports, such as Athletics, Cross Country, Swimming, Football, Hockey and Netball. We also celebrate our involvement in and belief in the importance of Arts education. Our Music program is outstanding, including class participation, bands, vocal groups and choirs; with involvement in local competitions. Additionally each year classes are involved in a concert for families to enjoy.
Hagley Farm School is a member of the Prospect Cluster, with Prospect High and Summerdale Primary Schools. We work together regularly with a focus on reading engagement and higher order reading strategies. We have a strong partnership with Prospect High School to support our students as they transition towards, and into their secondary education.
Hagley Farm School prides itself on a strong collaborative culture of learning and of participation for all community members. We embrace and celebrate our past, and continue to seek new ways to improve.
We are always happy to extend a warm welcome to visitors, and to discuss the opportunities our school can offer for your child. Please contact the school if you would like to arrange an appointment.
